Evaluation of enhanced oil recovery methods in the Western Absheron field based on reservoir model

Relevance. The application of modern approaches in selecting stimulation methods in fields in the initial stage of development is one of the serious factors affecting the efficiency of the process. Geological and hydrodynamic models of hydrocarbon reservoirs play an important role in predicting the results of various geological-technological events. Aim. To stimulate the methods to maintain the production rate and enhanced oil recovery techniques based on the three-dimensional geological and hydrodynamic models of the productive horizons of Azerbaijan Western Absheron oil field, to consider evaluation effectiveness of these methods in a detailed manner. Methods. While building the reservoir model, the authors have used well data, oil, gas and water production data for each well, measured initial and current formation and other pressure data, formation temperature, information on physical-chemical-thermodynamic properties of formation fluids and other scientific research results conducted in the same oil field. When there is no accurate information about the initial condition of the field, as well as when the data is partially insufficient and inaccurate in some intervals of the long-term production performance, the authors investigated the methods of restoring information in different ways for building a hydrodynamic model, and studied the ways to minimize the negative impact of this type of uncertainty on the model. For this purpose, a new method called intermediate initialization was developed and applied to the construction of the reservoir model. Results and conclusions. The authors investigated the selection of more efficient stimulation method on the basis of the hydrodynamic model, simulated the processes of water, polymer solution, hot water and steam injection into the formations, defined the optimal placement scheme of new production and injection wells. The field performance was predicted and compared according to various options obtained from hydrodinamic modelling.
