Fault-tolerant control of a brushless DC motor of a pump unit as part of a hazardous production facility
Relevance. Brushless direct current motors are a key component of modern pumping equipment used at hazardous production facilities, including those in the oil and gas industry. Their high energy efficiency, reliability, and compact size determine their widespread use in fluid pumping systems, where uninterrupted operation is critical for ensuring technological and industrial safety. A failure of the pump unit electric motor can cause process stoppage, lead to significant economic losses, and create conditions for emergency situations with severe consequences. Therefore, ensuring stable operation of the brushless DC drive under emergency conditions, particularly in the event of loss of one or more supply phases, is an urgent scientific and technical challenge. Aim. Development of a control algorithm for a brushless DC motor that ensures its fault-tolerant operation under open-phase conditions, as well as analysis of the effectiveness of the developed algorithm. Object. Brushless direct current motor used in a pumping unit for transporting process fluid and capable of operating under open-phase power supply conditions. Methods. Mathematical description of electromechanical processes, computer modeling. Results. The authors have developed the mathematical model of a brushless direct current motor designed for joint operation with a pumping unit. The authors carried out simulation modeling of the motor operation under normal and open-phase power supply conditions. Graphs of the volumetric flow rate of the process fluid were obtained under various operating scenarios: without and with the use of a recovery algorithm.
