Ground penetrating radar method in solving engineering, geological and technical problems during the survey of natural objects
Relevance. Geophysical methods have been successfully used for a long time to solve various engineering, geological, and technical problems of an applied nature. In this field, the methods of electrical prospecting are of particular importance, and georadiolocation is gaining popularity. The ability to choose the most suitable survey methods and equipment allows for the optimization of georadiolocation operations for a wide range of tasks in specific conditions. Aim. To demonstrate the possibilities of georadar method as a tool for solving applied engineering, geological, and technical problems related to the study of natural objects. Materials and research methods. The materials used were obtained by one of the authors during the study of various natural objects and phenomena. The authors examined karst and landslide processes, areas of waterlogging and oil pollution, water bodies, including the bottom relief, the thickness of silt deposits, the presence of algae in the water body, the geological structure of the bedrock, the thickness and condition of the ice cover, the presence of submerged objects, and the tracing and inspection of existing pipelines and other linear structures that cross the water body. The article describes in detail the methods of conducting surveys, the main characteristics of the antenna systems used, and the approaches to interpreting the results. The article also provides an assessment of the effectiveness of the research. Results and conclusions. The materials presented in the article demonstrate the high efficiency and versatility of georadar. It was established that in many cases, georadar is the only viable solution for solving current applied problems. Georadar surveys can be considered as a mobile, relatively inexpensive, versatile, and effective tool for studying a wide range of diverse objects, the scope of which has not yet been fully defined.
