The Geoinformation analysis and assessment of distribution of lands environment-forming potential (the case of the Bolshoy Zaokskiy Test Site)

Relevance. The need for monitoring and assessing the state of the national land reserve – strategic geo-resource – to ensure sustainable development of administrative-territorial units. The environment-forming potential of lands is one of the parameters selected by the authors, the value of which represents the physical condition of the study area at the time of the research. In addition, the application of geoinformation technologies to collect, process and analyse geo-referenced data, including economic and environmental ones, seems to be the most appropriate. Aim. To study the environment-forming potential value distribution for the territory of the Bolshoy Zaokskiy Test Site, which is representative of the landscape and geographical environment for the center of the European part of the Russian Federation, based on the analysis of land balance by plots, in order to approve the previously proposed technique. Objects. Data from the Public Cadastral Map of the National Spatial Data System, digital maps from JSC "CB Panorama", vector data from OpenStreetMap project and satellite imagery from Yandex Satellite WMTS service. The basis of the calculation was information on the distribution of land on 01.01.2024. Methods. Satellite imagery interpretation, methods of GIS mapping and analysis, land balance analysis, integrated assessment, desktop GIS QGIS. Results and conclusions. The authors have performed full mapping and updating of spatial data for the test site territory. While calculating the environment-forming potential, the authors analysed lands distribution by categories, by zones with territory special conditions of use, and by land plots; created five map charts. Based on the results of the analysis of lands distribution by categories, the paper suggests the conclusions about the leading agricultural production type of land use and the dynamics of changes in the environment-forming potential corresponding to it. Considering the nature of the spatial location of zones with territory special conditions of use, the authors confirmed the presence of stabilising effect of water protection zones and disturbing effect of roadsides, protected zones of product and energy trunk pipelines on the environment-forming potential of the territory. Based on the data of the related analysis of land distribution by land plots and by land categories, the authors revealed loss of agricultural production functions of agricultural land plots in the case when these plots cover an area smaller than lands of agricultural category of use. The given fact negatively affects the spatial development of the territory. As the result of the research, the authors substantiated the proposals on stabilisation/sustainable growth of environment-forming potential in the study area.
